Food allergies and intolerances can occur due to problems in different parts of our body’s immune system. Speedoc offers two types of diagnostic tests for food allergies:
In place of the conventional skin prick test, all we need is a blood sample. We will run diagnostic tests on a sample of your blood and the results will be ready in four to six weeks.
Prior to the test, before your blood is drawn, you will have to:
Once the results are ready, you will receive a report containing individual results for all tested foods.
A Speedoc doctor will schedule a video consultation to explain the results and provide advice on your diet to alleviate some of your allergy symptoms. You will also receive a handy card summarising all the foods you are allergic to.
Increased accuracy
As compared to a skin prick test, Speedoc’s food allergy test offers 95.8% accuracy when determining the allergen and predicted severity of the allergic reaction.
Unlike a skin prick test, which may not produce equally accurate results especially on people with darker skin tone, Speedoc’s food allergy test allows for component testing in food allergies. This means the lab can determine the exact protein in a particular food that you may be allergic to and its corresponding allergic reaction.
Reduced exposure and risk
Processing your blood sample in a sterile laboratory eliminates any possibility of an allergic reaction, which is often observed in a skin prick test.
A blood allergy test is beneficial for those who have too much sensitivity for a skin prick test and is perfect for those who are concerned regarding the repercussions of undergoing a skin allergy test.
Added convenience
Undergoing a blood allergy test allows you to continue taking antihistamines. This is because blood tests are not affected by medication. The skin, on the other hand, becomes less reactive with antihistamine in the system and would produce less accurate results in a skin prick test.
If you rely on antihistamines, this would be the most suitable test.
Suitable for children
The food allergy test is suitable for children 11 years and above, however, you can enquire with us if your child is not afraid of the blood-taking process.
Our medical professionals will draw a sample of your blood and the results will be handed to you within 4 - 6 weeks. Speedoc can help to interpret the results and provide advice on your diet to alleviate some of your allergy symptoms. You will also be provided with a handy card containing the foods you are allergic to for your convenience.
Speedoc’s food allergy test is a reliable diagnostic test that gives you information about your health in order to make important lifestyle choices. You will receive a report containing individual results for all tested foods at a glance and a Speedoc doctor will schedule a video consultation to explain the results to you.
A food allergy is an immune system reaction that can affect organs in the body and cause dangerous health conditions. Conversely, food intolerance occurs in the digestive system and can be managed by consuming the particular food in smaller quantities.
Depending on the package you choose, peanuts (and other seeds and nuts) are foods that our packages test for.
You may feel sick, nauseous or bloated after eating foods that contain gluten. Gluten intolerance is also called non-celiac gluten sensitivity, and is not the same as celiac disease or a wheat allergy.
Lactose intolerance is the body’s inability to digest lactose. The food allergy tests cannot look for the enzyme that is required to digest lactose, hence will not be able to determine whether you are lactose intolerant. The food allergy test can, however, detect the allergy to dairy products.
The price varies according to the package you opt for.
A food allergy test can help to find out whether you have a true allergy or sensitivity to a food.

Food allergies in adults do happen more often than you think. If you notice or feel any discomfort such as vomiting, stomach ache, hives or difficulty swallowing after eating certain foods, you may be having an allergic reaction.
You are required to fast for at least 2 hours prior to your test. You will also need to avoid oily food and fatty foods 8 hours before your blood is drawn.
