At the point of publication, international travel is still extremely stringent as COVID-19 continues to rip through the fabric of societies all across the world.

What we need to travel in and out of Malaysia or other countries includes medical clearance and valid reasons presented, authorisation and approved documentation before we board a flight. You are advised to consult with the relevant authorities regarding the latest ruling about travelling in and out of the country before boarding your flight.

If you’re scheduled for International travel soon and need a pre-flight PCR or RTK-Antigen COVID-19 swab test, you’ve come to the right place. Speedoc is licensed to provide you with on-site COVID-19 swab tests and deliver you with quick results so that you can catch that waiting flight.

1. What Kind of International Travel is Allowed In and Out of Malaysia?

The rules are still changing even as you're reading this. In fact, according to the CDC, the recommendations are updated weekly although they review the data from the World Health Organisation (W.H.O.) daily. After getting your COVID-19 swab test done, you will need to present your negative PCR or RTK-Antigen test result at the airport before boarding your flight so, remember to bring it along with you.

Because the rules regarding International travel will change from time to time, you are encouraged to check in with the local Immigration Department of the country, the country’s Embassy, or visit the country’s health authority's websites before going for a Pre-Flight COVID PCR test.

At the point of publication, here is the list of people who are allowed in and out of Malaysia.

Flying Out of Malaysia

  • Foreign visitors returning to their countries of origin

  • Malaysian citizens and PRs with work permits from another country who wish to return to their workplaces

  • Malaysian citizens who are students returning to their studies abroad or have received their Student Pass, Visa, Long Term Pass, Letter of Offer, or Letter of Instruction

  • Malaysian citizens who are authorised or required to go abroad for business and emergency purposes with approval from the Immigration Department of Malaysia

Flying Into Malaysia

  • Foreigners with Employment Pass Category I, II, and III with their dependents and domestic helpers

  • Foreigners with Residence Pass-Talent (RP-T), Professional Visit Pass (PVP), and Long Term Social Visit Pass (LTSVP) with their dependents and domestic helpers

  • Foreigners seeking medical treatment in Malaysia who have obtained permission through the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC). They are allowed to enter Malaysia with ONE companion

2. What Do I Need To Do to Fly Into Malaysia?

There are some steps you would need to take in order to fly into Malaysia. The first thing you need to do is to download, activate, and register Malaysia’s contact tracing app, MySejahtera on your mobile device(s). In the app, complete the health declaration form because it is a requirement.

You are also required to undergo a COVID-19 swab test not more than 3 days before your departure date. If the PCR COVID test result is negative, you can then proceed with the necessary to obtain entry into Malaysia.

Depending on the destination country, you’ll have to undergo quarantine at designated quarantine centres for a period determined by the Malaysian government. Another COVID-19 medical screening will be conducted on the 10th day of the quarantine.

3. How Do I Get a Pre-Flight COVID-19 Swab Test?

Foreigners wishing to fly into Malaysia can opt for either public or private COVID-19 preflight swab tests from where you’re flying in. If you’re in the country’s capital of Kuala Lumpur, COVID-19 tests are offered by Hospital Kuala Lumpur and Hospital Sungai Buloh.

However, time is of the essence if you’re about to board your flight, in which case, your other option is to get your COVID-19 swab test done on-site, at home, or in the office via private channels like Speedoc Malaysia.

We can send our team of medical professionals to perform the preflight COVID swab test for you wherever you are.

For travellers who test positive for the COVID-19 swab test, they will need to report the positive test with the relevant local health authorities.

Telehealth companies like Speedoc can provide necessary guidance to travellers on what they and their close contacts should do before flying into and out of Malaysia. However, the doctors have no authority to persuade nor assist in helping obtain approval intended for travelling.

Organisations and companies can also get rapid results with our Premium COVID-19 RTK-Antigen swab test packages when you contact us at business.my@speedoc.com, call us at +6011-4166 1178, or complete the enquiry form on our website. 4. Is It Safe to Travel by Airplane During the COVID-19 Pandemic?

As a general rule of thumb, it is best to delay travel until you are completely vaccinated. If you are not vaccinated, health authorities recommend that you fully comply with each country’s health authorities rules on travelling.

If travelling is necessary because of an emergency or work, be sure to abide by all the rules outlined by your country's and the destination country's recommendations which includes quarantining, monitoring your health, and going for COVID-19 swab tests before and after your travel.

As far as the safety of flying by plane is concerned, airlines have to report regularly to regulatory bodies with regards to passenger information, illnesses and deaths, especially those related to COVID-19. The protocols may differ from one airline to another, so the strict guidelines related to international travel are subject to change.

6. If I Have Recovered From COVID-19, Can I Now Travel?

Technically, if you have recovered from COVID-19 in the past 3 months, all you need to do is to follow the rules applicable to fully vaccinated travellers set by the destination country. Some countries may require Proof of Negative COVID-19 Test or Proof of Recovery. You should check with the health authorities of the country and prepare the required documents well before your flight.

If you are not experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms after recovery and have not been in close contact with COVID-19 positive patients, take note that some people can continue to test positive for up to 3 months after full recovery from the infection. So, travellers may be advised to get re-tested with a COVID-19 PCR test just to be sure.
