How are STDs/STIs transmitted?
TDs/STIs can be transmitted through anyone who engages in unprotected sexual activity with someone who has an STI or STD, whether oral, anal or vaginal. Â Some sexually transmitted diseases (STD) such as herpes and HPV can be transmitted from person to person through direct skin-to-skin contact.
What happens if STDs is left untreated?
If left untreated, several treatable STDs can be deadly, for example. Â
- Chlamydia and gonorrhoea can make it impossible for women to get pregnant if they are not appropriately treated.
- HIV and Syphilis are deadly if untreated.
Is it possible to treat STIs/STDs?
- Your doctor might prescribe medication to treat chlamydia or gonorrhoea infection. Â
- Syphilis can be treated with antibiotics. Â
- Herpes Simplex (HSV), Hepatitis B, HIV, and human papillomavirus (HPV), cannot be cured but can be managed with medication. Â
- You are encouraged to talk openly and honestly to your partner in advance if you are infected with STIs or STDs to protect your partner’s health.
Who needs pap smear?
- The American Cancer Society says that people should start getting checked for cervical cancer at age 25. Â
- You need to have more tests if you are HIV-positive and have a weak immune system because of chemotherapy or an organ transplant. Â
- People between the ages of 25 and 65 should have an HPV test every year to ensure they don't have any problems. Â
- If you're over the age of 25 and haven't had any issues with your Pap tests, ask your doctor about having one combined with a human papillomavirus (HPV) screening. Â
- You should still get regular Pap smears based on your age, even if you aren't having sexual activities, as the HPV virus can lay dormant for a long time and then start to move. Â
- There's a chance that if you have HPV is a virus that can make you get warts and raise the risk of cervical cancer as most cervical cancer is caused by HPV types 16 and 18. Â
- As for woman is over 65, she may not need to have the Pap Smear test. However you are suggested to consult with the doctor for further informations.
What is Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) test?
- According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (ACOG), women make the anti-Mullerian hormone, also known as AMH, by the granulosa cells in their ovaries. Women have a good ovarian reserve based on how much AMH they have made. Â
- A basket of eggs is what you should think of when you think about your ovaries. Many people are born with a basket full of eggs. Those eggs get used up over time. How many eggs do you have? An AMH test can tell you that. Â
- People who don't have many eggs have a low AMH level, which means they have a low ovarian reserve (DOR). This is why the hormone is linked to fertility. You're going to run out of eggs if you have DOR. It is essential to understand that AMH doesn't say if the eggs in the basket are good.
What is the difference between STD and STI?
- STD stands for a Sexually Transmitted Disease while STI stands for a Sexually Transmitted Infection. Â
- The main difference is between a disease and a condition. Â
- Sexually Transmitted Infection (STIs) happens when the sexually transmitted bacteria or virus first enters the body and grows. Â
- Sexually Transmitted Disease (STDs) happens when bacteria or viruses officially interferes with the body's normal functions and processes. When this happens, the body is infected with the disease. Â
- STDs/STIs are diseases or infections that can be spread from one person to another by unprotected sexual contact.
What are the STDs/STIs symptoms?
The symptoms of an STI can include:
- Unexpected discharge from genitals
- Pain during urinating
- Skin growths or bumps around the genitals or the bottom (anus)
- An outbreak of skin lesions
- Strange bleeding from the cervix
- Inflamed or irritated genitals
- Itchy, red, or blistered spots on your genitals
- Genital or anal warts
- Some people may get warts in their mouth or throat
How often and who should get STDs/STIs test?
If you suspect you might contracted STIs or STDs, you should get tested immediately. This is to safeguard your health and mitigate the risk of further spread. Â You should get tested annually if:
- You are sexually active and under the age of 30.
- Have multiple sexual activity partners.
- You have sexual activity with a new partner.
- Your partner has multiple sexual activities partners.
What is Pap Smear test?
- A Pap smear, also called a Pap test is a way to check for cervical cancer.
- It corresponds to see if your cervix (the part of the uterus that opens) has precancerous or cancerous cells in it and if they are there. Â
- During the standard procedure, cells from your cervix are gently scraped away and checked for growth that isn't normal.
Does Pap Smear detect cervical cancer and HPV?
- The main goal of a Pap Smear test is to look for cell changes in the cervix that could be caused by HPV. Â
- It's easier to treat cervical cancer when it is found early on with a Pap smear. Also, it's possible to test for HPV from the blood sample in the Pap smear. Â
- All women who have sexual activities are at risk of getting HPV and should get a Pap smear every year. Â
- To reduce your chances of getting the HPV virus, women are strongly encouraged to use a condom or other barrier method when having sexual activities. Â
- Please be informed that Pap Smear doesn't pick up on other sexually transmitted diseases (STIs or STDs).
What can AMH test tell about you?
- Besides figuring out how many eggs you have, AMH levels can help your doctor figure out how many women have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and how many women go through menopause, too. Â
- PCOS is one of the most common female hormonal disorders. It is also common. Even though many people with PCOS have high AMH levels, medical groups don't agree that AMH levels should be used to diagnose PCOS. Â
- Because of this, when it comes to predicting when women will go through menopause, research on the role AMH levels play has been mixed up. Â
- As a general guide, there's some evidence that AMH can be used, but not as a timetable. A recent study found that measuring your AMH could help doctors determine when your last menstrual period will be. Â
- The bottom line is that AMH levels can help you figure out how many eggs you have at the test time. In time, these levels go down. Doctors may use an AMH test as a diagnostic tool to talk about fertility. When you look at your AMH levels alone, they can't show whether you'll be able to get pregnant. Tests for AMH may be unnecessary if you're younger than 35 and haven't been diagnosed as infertile.
